A Welcome from the Founder & Artistic Director

At JK Ballet, we don’t simply teach dance, we develop strong, confident, and disciplined dancers.

My approach is intentional and rooted in high standards, while always guided by encouragement. Each class is designed to build not only technical excellence, including coordination, strength, flexibility, and control, but also the qualities that truly shape a dancer: confidence, resilience, and self-respect.

What sets JK Ballet apart is consistency. Every class is personally taught by me as Founder and Artistic Director. From a dancer’s very first steps through to advanced training, each pupil is guided with the same vision, expectations, and individual attention. This continuity allows every dancer to be truly known, supported, and challenged in the right way.

With over 25 years of experience in training and teaching, my own journey began at the Caroline Robinson School of Ballet, where I achieved exceptional Royal Academy of Dance (R.A.D.) examination results, consistently scoring 99% and above. I furthered my training through associate programmes with Ballet Ireland and High Points Youth Ballet Company, experiences that continue to shape my teaching philosophy and standards.

As a fully qualified Associated Teacher with the Associated Board of Dance (A.B.D.), I am also NPAA qualified, upholding the highest standards of professional training and excellence. Under my guidance, pupils have achieved a sustained 100% examination pass rate year on year, with the majority awarded Merits and Distinctions. JK Ballet dancers have performed at the A.B.D. Scholarship Awards in Birmingham and continue to be selected for prestigious national opportunities.

Pupils progress confidently through graded examinations, performances, and competitive opportunities, with many developing a lifelong passion for dance.

Our dancers are gaining recognition on a national stage. In 2025, two JK Ballet pupils were ranked among the Top 100 dancers in the UK at the UK Young Dancer Classical Awards. The school was also named a finalist for Highest Performing Ballet School at the 2024 Dance Awards NI.

In 2025, I was honoured with a nomination for Dance Teacher of the Year at the prestigious Golden Dance Awards. In the same year, the Judith Keyes School of Ballet was named a Finalist for Ballet Dance School of the Year, further affirming the school’s reputation for excellence, consistency, and outstanding achievement.

I am passionate about nurturing every dancer as an individual. Whether a student is dancing for enjoyment or pursuing a more serious pathway, they are supported, challenged, and encouraged to reach their full potential. This is an environment where effort is valued, progress is expected, and confidence is built with purpose.

In addition to ballet, I am a Northern Ireland and Ulster Champion Irish dancer and founder of the Judith Keyes School of Irish Dance, a proudly cross community school that welcomes dancers from all backgrounds. Many pupils choose to train in both ballet and Irish dance, developing versatility, musicality, and performance strength.

I am also a qualified Level 3 Personal Trainer and Level 2 Group Exercise Instructor. Strength and conditioning are an essential part of a dancer’s development, and this expertise allows me to support pupils in building the physical resilience required to perform at their best in today’s competitive dance environment.

JK Ballet is proudly based in Newtownabbey and is trusted by families who value consistency, high standards, and a personal approach to training. Many of our pupils travel from across a wide area, some up to 40 miles, to train with us, reflecting the reputation and results the school consistently delivers.

At JK Ballet, families value the reassurance of consistent teaching, high standards, and genuine care. It is a place where dancers are inspired, supported, and challenged to grow, both inside and outside the studio.

Together, we set meaningful goals and pursue them with passion, perseverance, and pride.

“Dance with your heart, and your feet will follow.”
